News Pamela Anderson Condemns US Opposition to Breastfeeding Resolution by Anna Starostinetskaya

"What happened was tantamount to blackmail, with the USA holding the world hostage and trying to overturn almost 40 years of consensus on best way to protect infant and young child health", The New York Times quoted her as saying.

On Twitter, Mr Trump "called out" the Times and said the "US strongly supports breastfeeding". The recommendation called on governments to "protect, promote and support breastfeeding", and also recommended limiting the promotion of "food products" - aka baby formula - to families with young children. In a 2011 paper, US Department of Agriculture economists reported that three of those giants-Abbott, Mead Johnson, and Nestlé-own 98 percent of the US market-a figure echoed in a May 2018 New York Times Magazine exposé of black-market infant-formula sales here in the United States. The measure was introduced, however, once Russian Federation stepped in. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusively breastfeeding babies until they are six months old, and continuing partial breastfeeding for the first year.

Standing in opposition to that revenue number are the health advocates who have fought for decades to increase breastfeeding everywhere and decrease misleading infant-formula marketing practices, particularly where lack of access to uncontaminated water can make using powdered formula life-threatening.

A State Department official said the US believed "the resolution as originally drafted called on states to erect hurdles for mothers seeking to provide nutrition to their children". "What happened was tantamount to blackmail", she said.

And while Rundall said she "didn't want to give too many details away", she indeed confirmed to RT that the U.S. did issue threats to achieve its goal of having the resolution dropped.

A spokesperson for HHS told the Times, "We recognize not all women are able to breast-feed for a variety of reasons".

In the course of one week in July, baby formula monopolies exposed that the drive for capitalist profits kills infants, and the Trump gang showed how an imperialist regime serves these monopolies - or tries to - whatever ruthless means it takes.

A resolution to encourage breast-feeding was expected to be approved quickly and easily by the hundreds of government delegates who gathered this spring in Geneva for the United Nations-affiliated World Health Assembly.

The move reflected the U.S. government's championing of the $US70 billion ($94 billion) baby formula industry - mainly based in the USA and Europe.

So the administration is trying to end maternity coverage, birth control access, reproductive rights., and now breastfeeding? Ecuador was prepared to introduce the resolution.

The Americans did not threaten Moscow as they did Ecuador and other countries, according to the Times.

Vanity Fair said the USA delegation's move was proof that it values "profits over health and bulls*** over facts", defining our representatives as "thugs". The U.S. provides about 15 percent of WHO's budget, at $845 million. The U.S. also unsuccessful lobbied to stop a World Health Organization initiative to give life-saving medicine to poor countries, siding with the pharmaceutical industry's intellectual property concerns.
