Indiana Jones 5 Gets a New Release Date

Indiana Jones 5 Gets a New Release Date

Disney released an updated movie release schedule for the next few years, pushing Indiana Jones 5 back to 2021 and Mary Poppins Returns up. The latest installment in the long-running franchise was previously set to arrive on July 10, 2020. Now, Disney has made it official, giving the film a new date of July 9, 2021. The delays reportedly came from key members of the production not being satisfied with the script from original screenwriter David Koepp (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).

While Ford remains committed to star as the iconic archaeologist once again with Steven Spielberg returning to direct, one can't help but wonder if time on the project is starting to run out.

The shakeup extends to a number of Disney films scheduled through 2021, including Mary Poppins Returns flying up to December 19 this year from December 25; Jungle Cruise sailing onto an October 11, 2019 release date; and Maleficent 2 being conjured into theaters on May 29, 2020. Is a man approaching 80 really going to convincingly be able to go on a world-spanning, bare-knuckle-brawling adventure?

But Southgate has leaned upon time-honored global soccer concepts in putting together his masterplan. England will face Croatia on Wednesday in their first World Cup semi-final match since 1990.

Indiana Jones will be swinging back into theaters a little later than expected.

At least we can count on the movie throwing out some self-referential, dryly-witty, geriatric humor for the audience - especially if Jonathan Kasdan brings his Solo sensibilities over to Harrison Ford's other iconic property.

We'll have more on Indiana Jones and the Legend of the Life Alert (or the City of Atlantis, the Pick of Destiny, Curly's Gold - whatever) as news develops.
