Fortnite Season 5 arrives with desert, rifts and new vehicle

There's also a new vehicle, the All Terrain Kart (the ATK) which will accommodate your whole squad. Grab your squad and cruise the map in style!

The Road Trip tier rewards players with special loading screens for fully completing all weekly challenges.

Fortnite Season 5 has started off with a huge bang and players can't wait to dive back into the map they know and love and see all of the new changes! It's also added two new named locations: Paradise Palms and Lazy Links, on top of a few anonymous areas that will surprise when you jump out of the Battle Bus. The rear passengers can even work together with the driver to jump over obstacles on the map by leaning back and then releasing at the same time for a higher jump.

As expected, the biggest changes are within the map. This golf cart has room for up to four players (or a full squad), can get a speed boost after drifting, and has a roof that doubles as a bounce pad. It's unclear what these Rifts can do, but players will be testing it out once the game's servers go live. "As the storm closes in", says Epic on that, "it will move and shrink to the new location". There are truckloads of tweaks, changes and additions - ranging from weapon alterations to new vehicles - so study up before dropping.

Some changes to gameplay include adjustments to shotguns, which will now indicate how many pellets have hit, and it will be visible within the damage reticle. The centre of the seventh, eighth, and ninth storm circles have also changed, now being able to shift in random directions (instead of simply shrinking). Epic Games has also made it a bit more hard to "double pump" in season 5.

The pellet spread of shotguns is no longer random, but they now have an added delay after firing.

In 50v50 or 20v20 modes, you'll now get bonus XP up to three times per match for reviving teammates. For the Nintendo Switch, Epic games has also included motion controls which can be adjusted in the Settings menu.
