Emmy Award nominations: 'Handmaid's Tale' earns 20 nods

TV stars are undoubtedly on edge this morning as they wait to hear who will be honored with a nomination for the 2018 Emmy Awards.

The nomination ceremony can be streamed on the Emmys website, or right here! Netflix racked up 112 nods while HBO earned 108.

Donald Glover's "Atlanta" was the top comedy series nominee the with 16 bids, poised to take advantage of the absence this time around of three-time victor "Veep". "Atlanta" will face newcomers including "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, " "Glow" and "Barry".

The only recognition of the cat from Targalski is when he moves the cat's tail away from his face twice during the interview. The only time he seemed to acknowledge the cat was there was when he had to brush the feline's tail out of his eyes.


The Hulu series, which is set in a dystopian MA, earned 20 nominations, including a repeat nomination for the victor of last year's Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award, Holyoke native Ann Dowd. Other likely comedy nominees include Silicon Valley, black-ish and Will & Grace. The series' 20 nods were the fourth-most for any show, finishing only behind "Game of Thrones" (22), "Saturday Night Live" (21), and "Westworld" (21). It got 23 nods in 2016 but wasn't eligible previous year.

"The Handmaid's Tale", the dystopian sci-fi series that claimed top drama honors last year, drew 20 bids, including one for last year's best actress victor, Elisabeth Moss, and supporting bids for Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Yvonne Strahovski and Joseph Fiennes.

This year's Emmy Awards will broadcast live on NBC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. ET.
