Rockets Favorite For Carmelo Anthony; 76ers, Lakers Also In Mix

Mbah a Moute, who had a one-year deal worth $2.1 million last season, turns 32 in September.

They apparently already have their main target in mind, as they are laser focused on landing Carmelo Anthony the former All-Star parts ways with the Thunder, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

It does not appear as though restricted free agent Clint Capela and the Houston Rockets are anywhere close to a contract agreement.

Executives are reportedly working on a solution that could see the team freed of Anthony's costly expiring contract, looking to offload the deal to a rival that would likely see Anthony waived to enter free agency. The 31-year-old averaged 7.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 25.6 minutes per game across 61 games (15 starts) in Houston.

Mbah a Moute spent the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons with the Clippers before joining the Rockets last season. The Rockets have now lost two of their most effective wings in Luc Mbah a Moute and Trevor Ariza, making Melo a much better fit than he was previously.

The Rockets are among the teams that Anthony is reportedly interested in playing for, though money could be an issue.

Acquiring Anthony on a veteran's minimum contract is still a possibility, but one that will prove all that much more hard if they also plan to bring him off the bench - as two concessions are much more than he'd be willing to make.
