Jack Wilshere explains decision to leave Arsenal for West Ham

Wilshere left Arsenal at the end of last season following the expiry of his contract, ending a 17-year stay at the north London side but the 26-year-old said he was pleased to join a club he has supported since childhood.

"It feels good, it feels special", Wilshere told West Ham's website.

"I think I must have been about six or seven, my whole family were West Ham fans, I was a West Ham fan, still have a soft spot for them of course".

After 17 years at Arsenal, the 26-year-old has moved on and joined West Ham.

"Manuel and I identified him as a target as soon as we joined the club and we are delighted to have succeeded in securing Jack's signature above a number of other teams".

West Ham had hoped to sign Anderson for around £35 million but have had to increase their offer.

I wished them well and even said that I would be rooting for Croatia to win the cup! "But thank God we've shown our character". This was quickly followed up with a 3-1 win over Egypt and Cherchesov's team punching their ticket for the Round of 16.

'It's well known that I come from a family of Hammers and it's a special moment to sign for the club I used to go and watch as a boy.

"Jack is a player with vast experience and quality at the highest level, having played all of his career in the Premier League".

Whilst the photograph doesn't reveal too much, it shows just how much Jack Wilshere retains affection for the Hammers, becoming apparent it would be his club of choice now that his contract has expired.

"Jack Wilshere basically, it's the early stages of retirement going to West Ham".
