Britain's Brexit minister David Davis steps down

A leader of the campaign to take Britain out of the EU, Johnson was under pressure to act after the resignation of David Davis as Brexit secretary.

It also puts a question mark over whether the leader will try to weather it and stand firm in her commitment to pursue a "business friendly" Brexit, or will be faced with more resignations and calls to quit herself.

Now some Conservatives who are pushing for a hard Brexit threaten that the prime minister could soon face a no-confidence vote.

She is set to tell MPs there have been "robust views" on Brexit among cabinet members and is also expected to announce a replacement for Davis. "The prime minister thanks Boris for his work".

Here are the key points of the plan agreed Friday (6 July) between warring factions within the United Kingdom cabinet, long divided between those seeking a clean break with the European Union and others wanting to maintain a closer relationship with the ...

A long-time eurosceptic, Davis was appointed two years ago to head up the newly-created Department for Exiting the European Union after Britain voted to leave the European Union in a historic referendum.

But much of the day-to-day negotiation falls to May's office.

George Freeman, May's former policy chief, said on Twitter that a "no deal" Brexit "just got a lot more likely". "That has been their practice throughout the previous year and I fear, in fact, if anything, this is just the start".

Mickelson has openly said that the two probably should have always gotten along this well, but they've "turned the corner". Apparently this was close enough to happening on July 3rd that Mickelson thought it was a done deal, but it fell through.

Davis said Monday that he believed Britain was "giving too much away, too easily" in the exit talks, saying May's plan "would be a risk at least of delivering a poor outcome". "It has been worrying the prime minister's advisers from the start". He has been a strong pro-Brexit voice in a Cabinet divided between supporters of a clean break with the bloc and those who want to keep close ties.

For many Brexit campaigners, Baker's government role gave them faith in the process. Michael Gove, May's environment minister, said on Sunday that while the agreed negotiating stance was not flawless, he believed it delivered on handing back control to Britain.

Davis opposed the PM's plan approved at her country residence, Chequers, on Friday.

Their complaints raise a question mark over whether May can win backing in parliament for her plans if any deal with the European Union is agreed later this year, and some suggest several of them could try to trigger a leadership contest against her.

She stamped her authority on her government and told ministers to back the plan for close ties to the bloc or leave.

His resignation comes days after Theresa May secured the cabinet's backing for her Brexit plan despite claims from Brexiteers that it was too "soft".

May is due to meet her lawmakers later on Monday. Conservative MPs have repeatedly told Business Insider that there is likely to be a challenge against her once Brexit negotiations conclude and Britain has left the European Union next March.
