Former Sacramento King Tyler Honeycutt found dead after standoff with LAPD

Authorities received a phone call from the man's mother, who said her son was acting erratically. He then spent several seasons playing in Europe.

After an hours-long standoff - SWAT entered his home and found Honeycutt unresponsive. Im said the officers at the scene fired back.

Although officers could not communicate with the man after the shooting, they believe the man is still alive, the report said.

ABC7-Los Angeles identified Honeycutt as the suspect and deceased in the first version of its article, but his name has since been removed and the suspect is being referred to as "a former NBA and UCLA basketball player".

"Investigators from our Force Investigation Division are at scene conducting a thorough investigation and we will provide more details as they become available", the tweet said.

Honeycutt played for the Bruins from 2009 to 2011. The Sacramento Kings drafted him with the 35th pick in the 2011 draft.

The Kings traded Honeycutt to the Houston Rockets in 2013. Honeycutt was just 27 years old.

Honeycutt played off the bench for the team in 24 games over two seasons, averaging 1.2 points and one rebound per game, and was often shuttled between the Kings lineup and the team's minor-league team in Reno. Earlier, Khimki Moscow head coach Giorgos Bartzokas expressed his sentiments over Honeycutt's death.

As of now, the exact circumstances of how Honeycutt was killed are still unknown. He also had stints with Israeli team Ironi Nahariya and in Turkey with Anadolu Efes.
