Wimbledon 2018: No time for 'greatest match' reminiscing for Rafa Nadal

Wimbledon 2018: No time for 'greatest match' reminiscing for Rafa Nadal

As Uniqlo doesn't yet manufacture trainers, Federer was still wearing Nike trainers for his first match of Wimbledon against Dusan Lajovic. Federer has said that he hopes they will be selling Federer-branded clothing to the public by the beginning of next year, although nothing has been confirmed.

Federer confirmed his switch from the USA sportswear brand to Uniqlo on the first day of Wimbledon by walking out to play in his new outfit but remained in personalised Wimbledon Nike trainers as he beat Dusan Lajovic in straight sets on Monday.

"I knew I'd be able to play well on the grass and just to win matches, come through those matches without any elbow pain, was the ultimate goal and I'm feeling good. In the US Open, little bit less, but still knowing better than here".

US Open champion and fourth seed Sloane Stephens became the tournament's first big name casualty when she slumped to a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Croatia's world 55 Donna Vekic.

The 22-year-old Croat next faces Viktoria Kuzmova of Slovakia or Rebecca Peterson of Sweden.

But everything else was familiar for the 36-year-old eight-time champion as the Swiss cruised past world number 57 Lajovic in just 79 minutes.

The new relationship gives a Uniqlo another shot at exploiting one of the sport's all-time greats. Sam Querrey, who lost to Cilic in the semifinals past year, had a similarly comfortable start as he beat Jordan Thompson of Australia 6-2, 6-4, 6-3.

Scott Pruitt out; Trump announces resignation of EPA chief
With a past life as an energy industry lobbyist, Wheeler is not an environmentalist, to say the least. Pruitt was opposed loudly by hundreds of former EPA employees, and more quietly by some current ones.

After losing to Federer in successive Wimbledon finals, Nadal finally got the better of the Swiss star in a thrilling 2008 clash many regard as the finest ever to grace the hallowed Centre Court.

The company issued a statement minutes after the defending champion took to the court, saying Federer would be a global brand ambassador for the firm and would wear its outfits at all tournaments this year.

Sports news site ESPN reported the price tag of Federer's new deal, but Uniqlo has not shared the specific terms.

The 20-time Grand Slam victor had been one of Nike's most high-profile ambassadors. It's also something that was very important for me, for the fans really.

Roger Federer wore Nike shoes on Monday. It's a long-awaited return for American player Serena Williams, who hasn't competed on the grass court since 2016, after she took time off for the birth of her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian.
