Jurgen Klopp Finally Speaks About Karius' Champions League Final Concussion

Cape Town - New Liverpool signing Fabinho has said he's excited to get started at his new club before dismissing reports of a move to Manchester United.

The Reds open their schedule at Chester on Saturday (3pm) - the same time that England contest their World Cup quarter-final with Sweden in Russian Federation.

'How can we think that?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed to the club's official website his initial reaction when he heard about the concussion suffered by Loris Karius during the Champions League final against Real Madrid last season.

In an interview with FourFourTwo magazine, he said: "I was never close to signing for Manchester United, no".

"He called me and said he came from a doctor, he told me: "Your goalkeeper had a concussion".

"As soon as Liverpool declared their interest in signing me, it was a simple decision to make". It's really not important what the people say. "I was sad to leave Monaco, a club that gave me a lot of great moments, but in football sometimes you need new challenges and I thought it was time to move on", he added.

'If you ask Loris, he says he didn't think about it and didn't use it for a second as an excuse. Liverpool have tried to buy a new goalkeeper this summer but have so far found Roma's Brazil number one, Alisson, too expensive.

Until the operation is completed, the trails leading to the pool system at the top of Shannon Falls will be closed to the public. Mounties have been contacting the families of the missing people, but aren't releasing their names.

We don't use it as an excuse, we use it as an explanation.

"The easy thing to do is put a cross through his name and bin him but you have to remember he took Liverpool to the Champions League final".

Karius, 25, returned to Liverpool for preseason training on Monday and is set to feature in the team's first friendly of the summer at Chester FC on Saturday.

Although a quintet of their stars are still involved in the World Cup, Liverpool reported back for pre-season on Monday, with new signings Fabinho and Naby Keita joining those uninvolved in global duty this summer.

"So from my side everything is fine". They are in, it's good.

'Now people could think for us it is the explanation - and for me it is 100 per cent the explanation and that's all'.

Holland pair Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum will also be absent as they do not come back to Melwood until Sunday, having been given extended time off because of worldwide commitments at the end of the season. "But, yes, they will be involved for sure".
