Donald Trump says Kim Jong Un 'sees different future' for North Korea

Donald Trump says Kim Jong Un 'sees different future' for North Korea

This change is coming at the behest of South Korea, which has told the U.S. that step-by-step negotiations are more likely to lead to a positive result than for the U.S. to demand North Korea yield to everything at once.

Players from North and South Korea were mixed into two teams that competed against each other at the North Korean capital's Ryugyong Jong Ju Yong Gymnasium.

Concerns about North Korea's sincerity have risen as even basic goodwill gestures that Pyongyang agreed to in Singapore have not been realized, such as its statement promising the "immediate repatriation" of the remains of fallen USA soldiers who were lost during the Korean War.

Pompeo will press North Korea to take concrete action to back up its commitment to "complete denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula made at the June summit between President Donald Trump and the North's Kim Jong Un.

Pompeo is set to reach Pyongyang on Friday for further talks on denuclearization of the country.

A peace treaty between the USA and North Korea would end the 1953 Armistice Agreement, which would strengthen North Korea's argument for American troop withdrawal, Asahi Shimbun said.

Phuket tour boats overturn in storm, rescue mission launched
Rescued Chinese were taken aboard a Thai fishing boat to their original destination of Chalong on the southern end of Phuket. A yacht called the Senerita carrying 39 people also capsized in the high seas, the officials added.

The long-stalled issue about the missing people has seen no tangible progress since 2016 when the North disbanded a special panel to reinvestigate the victims' whereabouts in retaliation to the sanctions Japan had imposed on the North due to its continued nuclear and missile tests. "We will have good outcomes (at the Asian Games) if we join efforts", said Lee Moon-Kyu, a South Korean coach who led one of the women's teams at Wednesday's match.

In the meantime, Pompeo and Trump have vowed to keep in the place the global economic sanctions that they believe forced the North to the negotiating table in the first place.

However, some officials in the State and Defence Departments and in US intelligence agencies are anxious that by overstating the results of the Singapore summit, Trump has put himself at a disadvantage if negotiations do begin. This is his third trip to North Korea. During their summit, the U.S. and North Korean delegations watched a four-minute video, made in the style of a Hollywood trailer, setting out the North's stark choice: conflict with a powerful enemy or a peaceful and prosperous future as America's (denuclearised) partner.

That 1953 agreement established the border between North and South Korea, and a demilitarized the zone between the two nations, noted. Last week, USA intelligence officials told The Post that North Korea does not intend to fully surrender its nuclear stockpile, and instead is considering ways to hide the number of warheads it has and secret production facilities.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said last month that the United Nations command in South Korea would initially take charge of the transfer of remains - when they occur - and would then turn them over to the custody of the USA military.

The decision was necessary to make way for diplomacy, Brooks had said. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was not mentioned among the attendees.
