Independence Day: Parades and Fireworks

The Independence Day holiday, which brings out crowds from small towns to big cities, is also a time when law enforcement agencies are on the alert for suspicious activity. The procession begins with an honor guard from the Jeffersonville Police Department with local veterans from all branches being recognized, according to a release from Jeffersonville Main Street, Inc. More than 175 agencies are expected to participate.

Ashland City - The use of fireworks is limited to 10 a.m. -10 p.m. on June 20 through July 7.

The Orange County Fire Authority put out a list of firework displays in the area. At 11 a.m., the city's annual parade will begin. The celebration also includes a dance party and dog show.

Wichita Animal Control says the week leading up to Independence Day is typically the busiest week of the year for them, and July 5th is the single-busiest day of the year. There will be a Children's Area set up with face painting, numerous games, crafts, coloring, and a Bounce House. But, the best way to identify your dog is through a microchip. All festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at midnight. The festival goes from 10 4 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and Michael Carubelli starts the show at 6 p.m., Cory Morrow goes on at 7 p.m. with fireworks follow! Fireworks at dusk. Coolers are not permitted. Campus rules regarding alcohol and smoking will be enforced.

July 3 fireworks may be used and discharged until 1 a.m. on July 4, on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 may be used and discharged until 1 a.m. on Dec. 25, and on Dec. 31, fireworks may be used and discharged until 1 a.m. January 1. Be sure you stay for the "Sauce-Off" competition from each restaurant and join in on some cornhole toss fun!

Sandy Springs - July 4 - Sandy Springs residents are invited to pack a picnic and come enjoy the afternoon and evening on the lawn at the Concourse Corporate Center. The Hawkeye State repealed "the silliest law ever" in 2017, joining the rest of Illinois' neighbor states in allowing the sale and use of a variety of fireworks. Streets close at 3pm. Earlier, competitive-eating titans will face off at Nathan's Famous July Fourth hot dog eating contest on Coney Island, televised by ESPN. This event is free and open to the public.

Windham Mountain celebrates the 4th of July with a parade, entertainment, sidewalk sales and a fireworks display.
