Colombia fans mourn World Cup shootout loss to England

"Kane is a great, outstanding player".

Diego Maradona has claimed Colombia were victims of a "monumental robbery" in their World Cup round-of-16 defeat to England on Tuesday.

Yerry Mina's header in the third minute of stoppage time for Colombia made it 1-1 at the end of regulation, and extra time was scoreless.

"We have a clear game plan and we are playing according to that", coach Janne Andersson said.

England have actually won a game on penalties at the World Cup in Russian Federation, and fans of the Three Lions have got one guy in particular to thank for it.

Maradona, who captained Argentina to victory at the 1986 World Cup, said he was surprised Geiger had been chosen for the match.

The Bayern Munich star was forced out of Colombia's 1-0 win over Senegal with a calf injury and does not appear to have recovered in time to face the Three Lions. The country's only shootout success came earlier at Euro '96.

Fans will now look to England's quarter final opponents Sweden and the next match, which will also be shown at the XL Arena, 3pm on Saturday, July 7.

Fans - from football pundits to Prince William - celebrated the news, with many taking to social media to share their reaction to England advancing to the quarter-final match against Sweden.

I haven't yet, but it's been good. "If they rock up 10 times a day, it gets rough - because they can", he said . But everything else was familiar for the Swiss star who cruised past world number 57 Lajovic in just 79 minutes.

"This round is looking very nice for us - Sweden is the best chance and then hopefully Russian Federation get through and we play them in the semi-final".

Six years later and just four days after the Spain game, England's old rivals repeated the trick.

Pekerman was seemingly referring to the incident which saw England awarded the penalty which Harry Kane converted to give them the lead.

Colombia didn't exactly cover themselves in glory against England on Tuesday night.

'When in doubt he always went to the England side. Eric dier scored the winning penalty despite a Jordan Henderson penalty miss thanks to Jordan Pickford's brilliant save.

Cue bedlam, total disbelief, more yelling, and hysteria that causes my entire body to shake for several hours.

Mina's leveller put the celebrations on hold, but Pickford, who saved two penalties at the Federation Internationale de Football Association U17 World Cup in 2011, had the last laugh in the shoot-out.

Now that the dust has settled on the game, the Colombia players themselves have spoken out and skipper Radamel Falcao has spoken his mind.
