For those who don't know, Light is the company behind the 16-lens Light L16 camera. The company showed the publication various concepts and prototypes that contained between five and nine lenses on its rear. It would make sense for each lens to have its own unique function, similar to how the triple lens on the Huawei P20 Pro works, and such lenses may include a monochrome lens, a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens.

A Light L16 multi-aperture computational camera, a CES 2018 Innovation Awards victor, is displayed at CES Unveiled Las Vegas, a press preview event before the start of CES in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 7, 2018. It is developing a new, multi-lens camera system that smartphone manufacturers can adopt for super high-end photo capture. Well, you're about to get a case of phone-camera-envy anyway. The camera is capable of taking 52MP photos, which are formed stitching together more than 10 perspectives. But it looks like the number of lenses or sensors on a smartphone could go up to nine, thanks to a camera company called Light, which is working on such a device. This phone has seven fewer lenses, but also requires a processor, screen, and other phone-specific features. The report says the prototype is able to capture 64-megapixel pics with low-light capabilities and special depth effects.

Suspect arrested after shooting outside Kan. elementary school

A word of caution though, the pocket-friendly L16 camera costs $1,950 (£1,850), so it's unlikely that the firm's phone will be heralded for its affordability. Is the rumoured Light phone immediately on your radar?
