Uruguay knockout Portugal from World Cup

Real Madrid forward Ronaldo has scored four of Portugal's five goals so far, while Barcelona star Suarez netted against Saudi Arabia and Russian Federation.

After playing a flat 4-4-2 in the first two games, Uruguay were much better playing a 4-3-1-2 formation against Russian Federation.

And although Portugal toiled away and spent nearly the entirety of the second half camped in Uruguay's half, they were unable to claw their way back into the game.

Cavani limped off the field in the 74th, helped by Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was lifted. Portugal grew.

Annapolis shooting: How journalists tweeted their ordeal
The newspaper is located in a four-story office building in Annapolis , the capital of the USA state of Maryland. Larry Hogan has previously said that there were "several fatalities and several people in the hospital".

Suarez was close to adding a second with a 21st-minute free-kick but Rui Patricio was alert to beat away the low strike, before Ronaldo hit the wall with a set-piece opportunity at the other end. It didn't take long for Uruguay to respond though with another Suarez to Cavani play marking their second of the day and giving their squad the win. Next up for the underdogs is France and if they can snatch the first goal, their defence could see them through to the final four.

Although he struggled to find his best form at Old Trafford, Forlan went on to play for Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan. Cavani switches the play with a attractive diagonal pass, which Suarez takes down.

Ronaldo will be 37 when the next FIFA World Cup is held in Qatar and the Portugal captain would not give any clues as to his future plans.

However, Cavani struck a well-placed shot in the 62nd minute to ensure that Portugal moves on to the quarter finals.

Uruguay's hero of the evening, Cavani had to be substituted due to what looked like to be a muscle pull.

With the Uruguayan midfield hardly allowing areas in front of the box, Portugal resorted to crosses and crossfield balls. "This is the World Cup and we are playing for our national teams".
