Halo Is Becoming a Showtime Series (Really!)

It's nearly an understatement to say that Showtime may have found its own "Game of Thrones", given the massive popularity of the "Halo" franchise within the video game world. And Killen is one of the most exciting writer/producers in TV, having spearheaded two network shows-Lone Star and Awake-that were ahead of their time in terms of telling complex, serialized stories.

Reinventing how people think about video games, Halo and has grown into a global entertainment phenomenon.

David Nevins, CEO and President of Showtime, spoke to the ambitious nature of the upcoming sci-fi series: "Halo is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded", he said. In the game, Master Chief and other biochemically and cybernetically-enhanced supersoldiers protect humanity against an insidious alien alliance known as The Covenant.

After being mired in development purgatory for five years, Showtime has announced a project greenlight for 10 episodes - plus hired a showunner and a director. "Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future". Meanwhile, Rise of the Planet of the Apes' Rupert Wyatt will direct the series in addition to executive-producing. You'll also recall that a feature film adaptation was in the works even earlier, with Peter Jackson producing and Neill Blomkamp making his feature directorial debut. Production is slated to begin in early 2019.

Rupert Wyatt, who directed "The Rise of the Planet of the Apes", will direct multiple episodes. "Together with our creative and production partners at Showtime and Amblin Television, the Halo television series will represent new and exciting way for fans to enter and engage with the Halo universe".
