LeBron James doesn't want big team pitches in free agency

The Cleveland Cavaliers remain an option for James, but rumors and reports have linked James to teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Houston Rockets. When he became a free agent in 2014, LeBron met with only the Heat and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert in person. The Cleveland Cavaliers' star forward has until June 29 to exercise his $35.6 million contract option for next season or decline it and become an unrestricted free agent. But perhaps most importantly - at least as far as James is concerned - it would keep the list of potential suitors he could orchestrate a trade to essentially limitless.

In that regard, Cleveland could be facing an uphill battle - and the betting odds suggest as much - seeing as Los Angeles has the cap space to sign not just one, but two max salary players.

James went through a much more elaborate courtship when he was a free agent in 2010.

James could try to arrange a situation where he goes to a team that also trades for Leonard, but it makes the entire process more complicated. Ever since he signed his most recent extension in 2016, the coming summer has been pointed to as a time in which he'd make a choice on where he'd spend the final portion of his already storied career.

National Basketball Association stars have opted for various levels of courtship when entering free agency.
