Clippers send Austin Rivers to Wizards for Gortat

The Clippers are trading guard Austin Rivers to the Wizards for center Marcin Gortat, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowksi reported Tuesday. If he opts in to the final season of his contract (at $24-million) he would be an easy trade chip, although the Mavericks would have to give up a significant piece that the Clippers want.

Rivers, who has been with the Clippers since 2015, has already chose to opt in to the final year of his current deal worth $12.65 million for 2018-19.

Gortat has one season remaining on his deal at $13.6 million.

The midfielder was more accurate two minutes later as he thundered a volley into the back of the net to open the scoring. Shortly after half-time though, Milan Badelj put Croatia in front with a textbook half-volley from Perisic's cross.

Rivers, the son of Clippers Coach Doc Rivers, will join the Wizards at the start of his seventh National Basketball Association season. The 25-year-old averaged 15.1 points and 4.0 assists in 61 games (59 starts), missing the entire month of January with a right Achilles tendon injury. If that doesn't happen, Gortat is a solid rotation piece on an expiring contract, so it's not like he'd be a millstone around the team's neck should Jordan agree to a long-term deal. Wall missed half of last season due to injury.

If Jordan opts out, he can leave and the Clippers would receive nothing if he signs elsewhere.
