Uruguay defeat hosts Russian Federation in 3-0 win

Late in the second half, Cavani nailed Russia's coffin with a third goal as Uruguay continued a flawless run that has seen them win all their group matches; scoring five and conceding no goal.

Team Uruguay finished the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in the top spot of Group A after defeating hosts Russian Federation 3-0 on Monday night.

In the other Group A game, Saudi Arabia managed their first win at the FIFA World Cup by beating Egypt 2-1 with a last-gasp victor that eclipsed Egyptian talisman Mohamed Salah's 22nd minute goal in Monday's game between the two eliminated teams. Group B saw Portugal play out a draw against Iran, which saw some incredible action and a lot of controversies. Spain trailed Morocco 2-1 but fought back to register a draw and managed to top the group. The Saudi team scored its first victory in World Cup championships since 1994, when it won 1-0 vs Belgium.

Uruguay is perhaps the only Group A team capable of stopping Russia's onslaught of goals.

Salem Al-Dawsari sealed the win for Saudi Arabia in added time of the second half.

The Pharaohs crashed out of the group stages as they ended up being bottom of Group A with zero points, with Russian Federation and Uruguay making it through to the last 16. Youssef En-Nesyri's bullet header seemed to have secured the win for Morocco but substitute Iago Aspas scored in injury time to win a point for La Roja.

The former Liverpool forward has already made a better impression in the final game of the group against the hosts, however.
