Raonic to face Federer in Stuttgart final

The 35th-ranked Raonic, a victim of various injuries over recent seasons, was playing a final for the first time in his last 16 tournaments dating to Istanbul past year.

Federer, who has won 15 successive matches on grass since being beaten in his opening match in Stuttgart last June, knew he had to win on Saturday to knock Rafael Nadal off the top of the rankings.

Roger Federer will once again return to pinnacle of ATP Rankings on Monday after moving into the final of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart.

"I'm very happy, very relieved".

However, Nadal's decision not to play before Wimbledon combined with Federer's victory in the Stuttgart Open final against Milos Raonic on Sunday saw the great rivals swap places and the Swiss once again on top of the world. I've come back from not playing the last few weeks and I've come back playing at a high level.

"I had some chances today but couldn't convert them", Raonic said.

Raonic will next play Roger Federer, who edged Nick Kyrgios 6-7 (2), 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the other semifinal at the grass-court tournament.

According to a police release, two armed civilians initially approached the suspect. " He is a hero ", Adams said. Wohl said authorities do not yet know anything about the gunman and could not reveal any identifying details.

The only break of serve came in the third game of the match with Federer clinching it with a backhand victor.

The seventh-seeded Canadian has not won a title since the 2016 Brisbane International.

But the second set was even tighter, with the Swiss star winning the decisive tiebreak 7-3.

Pouille fended off the Canadian's effort as much as possible during the match, including saving two break point opportunities from Raonic.

"It will all depend on how many matches I get next week and then I'll decide what to do in the week before Wimbledon", Raonic said.

"I hope I keep it up at Halle and Wimbledon".

The result takes Federer's list of career titles up to 98, within two of a famous century.
