Pompeo: US hopes for 'major' North Korea nuclear disarmament by 2020

Trump showed off his new tattoo. Will he then withdraw the 29,000 USA troops out of South Korea that have served as a guarantor for the ally against post-war Japan, North Korea, and now a rising China over 68 years?

Japan has expressed concern, while South Korea said earlier it needed "to find out the exact meaning and intention of President Trump's remarks". "It's absolutely appalling", he told SBS News.

As a fully paid-up member of the Fraternal Order of Very Serious Foreign Policy Folks, I know I have to opine about this event.

Trump also said that his meeting with Kim was an "interesting and very positive experience" and that "North Korea has great potential for the future!"

Pompeo, who is scheduled to travel to Beijing Thursday, said he isn't sure when the next conversation with North Korea will next take place but that it could happen "fairly quickly" - as soon as the coming week.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo walks with General Vincent K. Brooks, commander of United States Forces Korea, after arriving at Osan Air Base in South Korea Wednesday.

Although a joint statement released after the summit did not specify a time frame to achieve denuclearization, Suga said, "The North Korean issues are not easy ones that could be settled in a summit".

With each passing day, Trump gets more invested in the idea of having this meeting. "This is a really tough and thorny problem and if he's on top of it and not afraid of this it gives him and the Republican Party some lift that they badly need".

Sherman was also vocal about Trump's announcement that the U.S. would no longer take part in "war games", and described the joint military drills with South Korea as costly and "provocative".

President Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize Again
President Barack Obama, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 , is the most recent American recipient. A group of USA lawmakers also are backing Trump's nomination for the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize.

"Usually when Trump signs an agreement with a foreigner, its a prenup, and those are all in writing", Jimmy Kimmel explained on Kimmel Live, speculating that Trump was so eager to look like he was making a deal, he'd sign anything.

By claiming that the North Korean nuclear threat has disappeared, Trump also risks weakening the USA negotiating position in talks on denuclearization that were mandated by the summit and will be led from the U.S. side by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. "Let's get rid of the nukes"' Trump said Tuesday. President Moon Jae-in, an avowed supporter of engagement with North Korea, called it "a truly historic feat" that had "moved us from the era of hostility towards the era of dialogue, of peace and prosperity". There's nothing in the joint statement about the ballistic missile threat, which is a key component of the [United Nations] Security Council resolutions.

"When you objectively do the arithmetic this comes out overwhelmingly in Kim Jong-un's favour".

"I'm not for Russian Federation, I'm for the United States", Trump said. I said, 'I want to stop that and I will stop that, and I think it's very provocative'. We sort of understood that was never on the table'.

"Hey, when you take over a country, tough country, tough people, and you take it over from your father, I don't care who you are, what you are, how much of an advantage you have, if you could do that at 27 years old, I mean, that's one in 10,000 that could do that", Trump told Fox News' Bret Baier.

North Korea's state-run media on Wednesday reported in detail about what Kim and Trump discussed and agreed on in Singapore.

Pompeo sought to counter concerns that North Korea and the United States came away from the talks with fundamentally different interpretations.

In remarks at a news conference in Seoul, the top US diplomat added that any sanctions relief North Korea receives from the USA will be linked to efforts to denuclearize.

"I really believe otherwise I wouldn't be doing this", Trump said of the summit.
