Oscar De La Hoya Confirms Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin Fight Rematch

Alvarez's promoter and former world title holder Oscar De La Hoya announced on Twitter Wednesday the fight has been scheduled for September 15.

What's more, Golovkin expressed hostility towards Canelo because he felt the man had cheated.

The second edition of this matchup was postponed in April after Alvarez tested positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol.

The Los Angeles Times' Lance Pugmire reported Wednesday that Golovkin wasn't budging from his demand to receive 45 percent of the fight purse, up slightly than the 42.5 percent cut proposed by Golden Boy Promotions.

The system will include 16-passenger vehicles called "skates" that will travel up to 150 mph (240 km per hour) through a tunnel. After Thursday's announcement, the city will begin one-on-one contract negotiations with The Boring Company.

Under the deal, Alvarez would get 57.5 percent of the revenue generated by the fight.

Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) and Alvarez fought to a controversial draw in their first meeting in September in a fight that generated 1.3 million pay-per-view buys and a $27 million gate - the third largest in boxing history.

Should Alvarez beat Golovkin he will strip the 36-year-old of his world titles and become the No.1 middleweight in the division. An Alvarez-Golovkin rematch obviously is a more profitable fight than Alvarez-Jacobs, but Jacobs would be a very credible alternative for Alvarez if negotiations with Golovkin end Wednesday without them coming to an agreement. Though Golovkin's team agreed to push ahead with an initially scheduled rematch on May 5, despite the failed test, a complaint by the Nevada State Athletic Commission delayed things further.

But now, at long last, Golovkin himself and his promoter Tom Loeffler have also given confirmation.
