Nashville leaders react to news of North America's 2026 World Cup

In March, B.C. Premier John Horgan said he was not willing to write a "blank cheque" to have Vancouver host soccer matches for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal were the three Canadian cities designated in the bid to possibly host games in the 2026 tournament, which is expanding to 48 team, up from the current 32-team format.

Arguably the greatest strength of the North American bid is the vast array of already-built stadiums available to organisers, ranging from iconic World Cup venues such as Mexico City's Azteca Stadium to state-of-the-art large-capacity arenas.

Mexico has previously hosted two World Cups, in 1970 and 1986.

It has been a bit of a rough ride for Russian Federation in their preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2018.

"FIFA could not provide a basic level of certainty on some major unknowns that put our city and taxpayers at risk".

The regional bid proved more appealing this time and the North Americans even collected 11 votes from Africa.

Good news for New England soccer fans: The World Cup will more than likely be played at Gillette Stadium in 2026.

Morocco FA president Fouzi Lekjaa said: "I would like to reaffirm the determination of my country, Morocco, to continue to work for football, to work for the youth and also to realise some day our dream to host the World Cup in Morocco".

Upon being awarded with the World Cup, the United 2026 organizing committee unveiled 23 finalists to be among the 16 host cities.

Mega Merger: Impact of AT&T's Time Warner acquisition
AT&T-Time Warner is considered a vertical merger, as AT&T is a content distributor and Time Warner is a content creator. Leon has ruled in favor of AT&T in the government's antitrust suit to block AT&T's proposed merger with Time Warner .

"They have made a decision among themselves but ultimately it will be up to FIFA to decide", FIFA President Gianni Infantino told reporters Wednesday.

Canada and Mexico will stage 10 matches each.

"There's a tremendous amount of ancillary events that go on around the World Cup", said Rick Catlett, president and chief executive officer of Gator Bowl Sports.

The U.S. will host 60 matches, including all games from the quarter-finals through to the final.

The Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation will hold a press conference at 9:30 Wednesday morning to discuss the 2026 World Cup.

The Football Association has not hosted the tournament since 1966, having failed in bids for the 1990, 2006 and 2018 tournaments.

To prepare for the 2015 Women's World Cup, the stadium got new locker rooms, which are now used by visiting CFL teams, Jevne said.

"They are doing something stressful and that's why we want them wearing the dress code".

Toronto's mayor noted that Canada had little chance of hosting the global soccer tournament on its own, but will now reap the benefits resulting from its participation in the joint bid.
