'Wake up Punchy!' Trump hits back at Robert De Niro

US President Donald Trump has lashed out at Hollywood actor Robert De Niro after the star denounced him with an expletive-laden speech at an awards ceremony.

Trump has now responded to the Raging Bull actor, labelling him "punch-drunk".

De Niro has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, and played the special counsel Robert Mueller on "Saturday Night Live".

Representatives for De Niro did not immediately return a request for comment. If so, we don't think this is gonna stick.

De Niro later apologized after his torrent of abuse.

The story was picked up by Minnesota Public Radio and the raccoon's saga - with the hashtag " mprraccoon " went viral. When workers from the building tried to get the critter down, it began climbing several stories higher.

Mr Trump labelled De Niro a "very low IQ individual," after the Oscar-winning actor launched an expletive-laden attack on the stage of the Tony awards ceremony in NY on Sunday. "It's no longer down with Trump, it's f-- Trump!"

While Trump didn't approve of De Niro's words, the audience sure did.

If you thought Donald Trump was going to let Robert De Niro get away with his f-bomb at the Tony's, you are mistaken.

De Niro was introducing Bruce Springsteen, who is starring in a Broadway production of his own, which has sold out tickets for months.

Mr Trump said he had watched a clip of the incident and tweeted he believed De Niro "may be punch-drunk" in reference to De Niro's film roles depicting boxers. In January of this year, the actor called Trump a "f**king idiot" in a profanity-laced rant. While in Toronto Tuesday morning, De Niro told Canadians he was sorry for Trump's behavior. 'It's a disgrace. And I apologize to [Canadian Prime Minister] Justin Trudeau and the other people at the G-7.
