USA, Canada and Mexico to host 2026 FIFA World Cup

USA, Canada and Mexico to host 2026 FIFA World Cup

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was responding to a journalist who asked if Putin would invite officials from North America to Moscow if the United States won a bid to host a future soccer World Cup.

The United Bid saw off competition from Morocco to win the vote at FIFA's annual congress at Moscow's Expocentre by votes of 134 to 65 votes.

Mexico hosted the 1986 World Cup, while the United States was awarded the tournament in 1994 but Canada, who have appeared just once at the tournament, have never hosted.

The U.S. metro areas in the running are Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium), Baltimore (M&T Bank Stadium), Boston (Gillette Stadium), Cincinnati (Paul Brown Stadium), Dallas (AT&T Stadium), Denver (Sports Authority Field), Houston (NRG Stadium), Kansas City (Arrowhead Stadium), Los Angeles (Rose Bowl and the new National Football League stadium), Miami (Hard Rock Stadium), Nashville (Nissan Stadium), New York (MetLife Stadium), Orlando (Camping World Stadium), Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field), San Jose (Levi's Stadium), Seattle (Century Link Field) and Washington (FedEx Field).

The 2018 tournament kicks off in Russian Federation on Thursday and the 2022 World Cup is to take place in Qatar.

One has to think all three will receive an automatic pass into the tournament.

US, Mexico and Canada to host 2026 World Cup as Morocco lose out

The two rivals bids each got 15 minutes to make one last pitch Wednesday, with the North American bid going first.

As nice as it is to travel and experience new countries, having the tournament come to our own backyard is a chance that simply can not be missed, especially considering it will be held in three separate countries for the first time in the history of the World Cup. But in the modern world, commercial clout and the promise of safe, sophistated infrastructure invariably carry more weight than passion and legacy - as Morocco seem likely to find to their cost when the race to stage the 2026 World Cup reaches its denouement tomorrow. He was born in Ghana in a refugee camp. Canada, for their part, has eight years to prepare a men's team worthy of their place at the party.

"The people of North America have always welcomed me". "We will meet somewhere, but I don't know where yet because they refuse to disclose the exact location. Our vision is of a world of opportunity for our Candidate host cities and for the global football community".

"It's a watershed moment for our country and for our sport", said Peter Montopoli, general secretary of the Canadian Soccer Association and Canada's bid director.

Many expected the bid to go to the joint bidders as they were the lower-risk choice.

The evaluation report also offers a "technical scoring" of the two bids, with Morocco getting 274.9 out of 500, compared to the United bid's 402.8 total. Morocco planned to use 14 stadiums, nine of which had yet to be built with the other five due for renovation.

The Raptors Have Found Their Next Head Coach
According to Woj, the two sides are still working out the specific details of the contract. Casey was named head coach of the Detroit Pistons, replacing Stan Van Gundy, on Monday.
