Raccoon scales St. Paul office tower, captivating public

When workers from the building tried to get the critter down, it began climbing several stories higher. Around 12:30 p.m., Pioneer Press reporter Tad Vezner captured a couple of shots of the raccoon apparently taking a nap on the other side of the window. The story was picked up by Minnesota Public Radio and the raccoon's saga - with the hashtag "mprraccoon" went viral.

A raccoon scaling a Minnesota skyscraper may be the most popular thing on the internet right now and it's putting many people in a Marvel state of mind - complete with Rocket Raccoon jokes.

The adventurous animal was first spotted Monday on a second-story ledge of the Town Square building.

It appeared, by about 1:30 p.m. local time, he had almost reached the top of the building.

Raccoons are not typically known for their bravery, but one is scaling the UBS tower in Minnesota with death-defying nerve.

"We have seen him pace back and forth and sniff, but he hasn't moved", said attorney Sheila Donnelly-Coyne.

Laurie Brickley, St. Paul Department of Safety and Inspection spokesperson confirmed traps are on the roof, ready for the raccoon. "We're hoping it gets to the top so we can set a trap for it there".
