Jeff Horn makes 147 pounds on second attempt, Crawford 146.5 lbs

Jeff Horn makes 147 pounds on second attempt, Crawford 146.5 lbs

Crawford is now the WBO Welterweight champion of the world and joins Errol Spence and Keith Thurman as a 147-pound titleholder.

Horn is 30 and not likely to get much better - although he might get a bit smarter.

More for Crawford vs. Crawford was nearly impossible to hit at times despite all the work Horn had done on his footwork in preparation.

Australian boxing great Jeff Fenech has shown little sympathy for Jeff Horn after he struggled to make weight for his world title fight against Terence Crawford.

"Like I said before, I was the stronger guy", said Crawford, who landed 48 percent of his power shots, according to CompuBox. "I knew his [Horn] punches couldn't hurt me, I hit him with a right hook that really hurt him and I knew then it was just a matter of time". It includes the impressive scalp of Manny Pacquiao, but with a bit of an asterisk given the fearsome Filipino was past his best.

The fight wrapped up a insane week with Horn almost getting stripped of his title on the scales on June 8. Both fighters were a little stiff and there was a lot of holding and wrestling early on.

"I've been wearing them gloves all my career and this is the first time I've had anybody complain about them".

Though he never appeared frustrated, Horn couldn't find a rhythm against Crawford, who chuckled in the middle in the fourth, the same round he opened a small cut on Horn's left eyebrow. "We knew what we were up against, we dealt with bigger, stronger, faster sparring partners in training camp that were relentless and didn't back up, which helped me prepare for tonight", said Crawford. From there on out, it only got uglier for Horn, as Crawford continually landed jab after jab, gassing the Australian native and keeping him off-balance. While Crawford seemed ambitious in the post-fight interview to step in with the best 147 pounders in the world, he would be wise to consider fighting the victor of Danny Garcia-Shawn Porter prior to going up against a puncher like Spence, JR. "And that to me is a great, great compliment because I always thought that Leonard was the best".

"His future is unlimited".

The fight is significant for one other thing - it marks the first attempt to get boxing fans to buy ESPN's new $4.99 a month app so they can watch the bout from the MGM Grand Garden.

The 30-year-old Crawford, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Horn, also 30, were supposed to fight April 14 at Mandalay Bay Events Center. Last August, the Omahan became the third undisputed champion in the four-belt era when he KO'd fellow unified titlist Julius Indongo in Lincoln.

Jeff Horn insists he left the ring without his head buzzing but admits to hearing voices at stages during his loss to Terence Crawford.

Horn's handlers believe his size and strength advantages will help him overcome Crawford's diverse skill set and intelligence when they square off.
