Vivo Nex A price, specifications, features, comparison

For now, the Vivo NEX is limited to the Chinese market, where the phone will go on sale for the equivalent of $610. Remember the Vivo APEX concept smartphone which the Chinese company showcased at the MWC 2018?

Now, as far as price and availability are concerned, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the phone will only be available in China.

Speaking of the OS, the vivo NEX S gets the so-called Jovi voice assistant. The device sports a metal and glass construction with the Nex S borrowing some design cues from Huawei P20 Pro. As the company is teasing from the last couple of weeks, there is no notch to hide on this smartphone. Vivo has managed to achieve an insane 91.24% screen-to-body ratio, which no other manufacturer achieved in the past. The bezels are tiny on all sides, including the bottom.

To be able to make that happen, Vivo has used three different technologies. And thus, one of the highlights of the phone is that it comes with a pop-up front-facing camera.

But the main reason you ought to be interested in the NEX is for its display.

We were a little anxious it would take too long to start up for when you want to take a quick selfie, but once you've switched the camera to selfie mode it takes less than 2 seconds and so far we haven't found ourselves frustrated with that speed.

Next to the selfie camera there's a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the bottom edge of the phone features the USB-C charging port and a single speaker for listening to general audio. The phone comes with a Screen SoundCasting Technology which basically means that speakers are integrated with the screen. Like previous Vivo phones, it uses AI to help you take better shots. Other local manufacturers like Xiaomi and Huawei are also using the in-display fingerprint scanning technology on their latest high-end devices, but we are yet to see it present on a widely-available device, even moreso on one that could be bought in the U.S. of A. Further, all the sensors on the device are hidden under the display.

Do you think all-screen smartphones are the future?

Moving onto other features, the Vivo Nex smartphones sport a 6.59-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display. Sensors such as Proximity and Ambient Light are all placed below the display. Let us know in the comments! This is a large phone, but considering it has an nearly 6.6-inch display it's very easy to hold in one hand. The Vivo Nex S gets the flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 8GB of RAM and option for 128GB or 256GB storage.

It should do, as it's paired with 8GB of RAM. There's no microSD card slot inside the smartphone.

The phone we've tested is running a specific OS for the Chinese market, which means it now doesn't have access to a lot of Android specific services like the Google Play Store.

So how did Vivo beat everyone to the punch to releasing a bezel-less phone without a notch? There's also a 4000mAh battery, dual 12MP + 5MP cameras at the back (with 4-axis OIS), and the phone runs Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Because of the narrow bezels surrounding the display, Vivo had to come up with a unique solution for the front-facing camera. We'll update this post as more details surface.

There are camera AI features here like on the Huawei range of products and some other devices, meaning the camera will optimize its settings to take what it believes to be the best shot when you're shooting particular objects.
