Vieira Finalizes Nice Move from New York City

Just hours after Patrick Vieira departed for France, New York City FC found his replacement.

New Nice coach Patrick Vieira insists he does not want to be judged on his glittering playing career after taking over the hotseat at the Ligue 1 club. He was also briefly linked to the Arsenal position following Arsene Wenger's departure.

Viera, 41, leaves America after two-and-a-half years in charge at NY, where he took over after beginning his coaching career at partner club Manchester City in their youth academy.

"Though I have been fortunate enough to visit NY on numerous occasions, I am looking forward to living and coaching in this special city and meeting the fans as soon as possible".

Announcing Vieira's departure on their official website, New York City were quick to thank their former coach for his endeavours.

Vieira takes over from Lucien Favre, who was appointed Borussia Dortmund coach in May.

After he started living with his grandmother, she said he mainly stayed home, reading books and surfing the internet. The suspect left home in Okazaki last December, according to his 81-year-old grandmother, who lived with him.

NYCFC (8-3-4, 28 points) now sit second in the Eastern Conference standings, two points behind Atlanta United.

As a player, Vieira also had stints at Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City, but is best known for spending almost a decade at Arsenal and being a key part of Wenger's title-winning teams.

NYCFC poached Manchester City assistant coach - and Pep Guardiola's right-hand man - Domenec Torrent, who becomes the third coach in the team's short history. His contract runs until the end of the 2020 season.

"I really couldn't have hoped for a better opportunity than at this football club", said Torrent, who has been with Guardiola the past 11 years.

Edelman was pleased to move so quickly to replace Vieira. Torrent, a Catalan, has won 23 trophies with Guardiola over the years.
