Trump sometimes 'felt foolish’ using harsh rhetoric against North Korea

The president said North Korea has a sizable nuclear arsenal and that Kim knows its details and capabilities very well. "The opportunity is there to create a top-down approach that could get us farther in a process than we've gotten before".

"I feel that Kim Jong Un wants to do something great for his people", Trump said at a press conference in Canada before departing the G-7 summit for Singapore.

Trump planned to speak to reporters after concluding the summit, the White House said. I think better than anybody could have expected.

Trump and Kim signed a document on Tuesday stating that Pyongyang would work toward "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula". In fact, I would say it's somewhat disgusting.

Garrett also asked the president about verifying North Korean compliance.

Trump emerged from that initial meeting to say it was "very, very good" and that he and Kim have an "excellent relationship".

In a speech to the United Nations last September, Trump made human rights a key issue in his overall condemnation of Kim Jong Un's regime.

President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un meet on the possibility of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula. Beyond the impact on both leaders' political fortunes, the summit could shape the fate of countless people - the citizens of impoverished North Korea, the tens of millions living in the shadow of the North's nuclear threat, and millions more worldwide.

Trump and Kim spent more than four and a half hours together at the Capella Hotel resort on Sentosa Island Tuesday, holding both a one-on-one sit down with translators followed by an expanded meeting with their top national security aides. Before the announcement, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo seemed to hint that the outcome of the talks might not be what Trump has promised in the past.

"I showed it to you because that is the future", Trump said. And so, we're putting him on the same stage as the American president.

Trump and Kim arrived not long ago on Singapore's Sentosa Island, the site of their unprecedented summit.

However, it now appears that the confident tings are going smoothly.

Trump announced that he will be freezing USA military "war games" with its ally South Korea while negotiations between the two countries continue.

Before the sun rose over Singapore he tweeted that 'meetings between staffs and representatives are going well and quickly, ' echoing a statement from his White House the evening before that talks were progressing so fast Trump would leave Singapore early.
