Trump Is a ‘Pathetic Little Man-Child,' Says Former Trudeau Policy Adviser

Trump tweeted that Trudeau was "very dishonest & weak".

Trudeau said he had reiterated to Trump, who left the G-7 meeting before it ended, that tariffs would harm industries and workers on both sides of the U.S.

"We will always stand up for Canadian workers, their jobs & their livelihoods", he said.

The prime minister confirmed the European Union will impose "countermeasures" in response to the American tariffs, which she said "ultimately makes everyone poorer".

The president refused to sign a solidarity agreement with the other G7 members and suggested more tariffs could be in the works.

The issue of trade was the most controversial heading into the G7 summit in La Malbaie, Que., with Trump launching multiple barbs in Canada's direction in the days leading up to his arrival.

With U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the centre of the dispute, the back and forth has intensified since just before the start of the month - when the Americans imposed hefty steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada.

While Trump also presented the idea that the member countries should drop off tariffs and trade barriers, he also reportedly complained to the other leaders about their trade policies and said the USA would continue with tariffs absent concessions.

Trump and his deputies lashed out at Trudeau for telling a news conference at the end of the G7 conference that Canada would not be pushed around on tariffs - a point the Canadian prime minister had made several times before.

She said that the European countries will not be "taken advantage of" in terms of trade and that they would "act" against the USA trade measures, which are considered as going against the World Trade Organization's rules.

"Ultimately that's what you want", Trump said.

Kudlow said that Trudeau's statements are "amateurish" and "sophomoric" only "for domestic consumption", and that it was Trudeau's remarks that had prompted Trump to pull out of the joint communique. That was Justin Trudeau's late father, who served several terms as Canada's prime minister, starting in the late 1960s.

"The president, coming late, stands before the cameras and says, "Why don't we add Russian Federation to the group".

He went on to blast White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow for his freaky claim suggesting the success or failure of the Singapore summit between Trump and North Korea leader rests with Trudeau.

The situation only got messier from there, particularly in the leadup to, during and right after the G7 leaders' summit.

Outside the Trump-Trudeau dustup, other G7 leaders also expressed displeasure with Trump's hardline approach. "It's a betrayal. He's double-crossing", he said Sunday.

French President Emmanuel Macron's office also slammed Trump's decision to reject the official communique and denounced the USA president's negotiating tactics.

"International cooperation can not depend on being angry and on sound bites".

Before leaving for Singapore, Mr. Trump had delivered a stark warning to America's trading partners not to counter his decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Trudeau stuck our president in the back.

Trudeau fires back on May 31 over the tariffs being applied on the premise Canada poses a national security threat to the U.S. - "Let's be clear: These tariffs are totally unacceptable".

"Not only was Trump reluctant to go to the G7, but he also came with demands that include bringing Russian Federation back into the G7, which was nearly in itself a provocation".
