"I promise you, I will do my best to be ready for the World Cup and to achieve the Egyptian dream", stated Salah.

The mercurial forward posed for pictures this week in the official team kit, looking both in good shape and in high spirits.

"We can't push him to play the opening match because we care about his future".

The stance of the Egyptian team remains that Salah will not be risked unless his is fully fit, with the team prepared to wait until the last moment to decide whether he should feature.

"He is doing (physiotherapy) sessions on his shoulder and working out in the gym", squad executive director Eihab Leheita said. "All I can say is that we hope he will play in this match", Lehita concluded.
