Paris street on lockdown amid reports of armed man holding people hostage

An armed man has taken a number of people hostage, according to reports, including a pregnant woman. The French Special Forces have been photographed arriving at the scene. The incident is not believed to be terror-related. Officials declined to provide more details.

Photos and videos from the scene showed numerous police vehicles and ambulances at Rue des Petites Ecuries in the 10th arrondissement of the French capital. "Cordoned off by law enforcement".

The man was described as "determined and violent" by police, who surrounded the building where three hostages were being held on Tuesday.

Small explosions, seismic activity continues from Hawaii's Kilauea
There's no way to know when the eruption will end or if more lava-spewing vents will open, according to USGS scientists. The other half of the residents in a more vulnerable area are allowed back during the day if conditions are safe.

The man reportedly asked for the Iranian embassy to be contacted but the police did not confirm the report.

One hostage has a head injury, Yves Lefebvre, a police union spokesman, said. An Interior Ministry official said negotiations with the suspect were taking place.

This is a developing story.
