Microsoft pulls agents from Windows 7, 8.1 and other forums

Holdouts to Windows 7, 8.1, and 8.1 RT won't be able to ping Microsoft's own forums for tech support from the company anymore. Some forums will be locked, preventing users from helping each other as well. However, Microsoft says there will no longer be "proactive reviews, monitoring, answering or answer marking of questions".

Microsoft Community participants are welcome and encouraged to continue to use the forum to ask questions and post answers with each other.

Thank you for being part of Microsoft Community!

Microsoft Band - this topic will be locked.

Microsoft did not provide any detailed explanation for this, but a forum moderator wrote the move is apparently being made to "shift support scope".

Over the weekend, Microsoft announced that starting on July 1st 2018 they are no longer offering support for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and a wide variety of older applications in the Microsoft Community forums. The news is rough for those with older products but it hints that Microsoft is obviously positioning its staff for only supporting newer devices and products moving forward.

The products listed on that page are Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RT; all three products are still supported (albeit in extended support).

It is unclear if Microsoft's wording is off as Microsoft could mean "extended support" instead of just "support". Support that was previously available in the Mobile devices forum will continue in the Other Windows mobile devices topic. While it does offer help for some issues, users who post there got canned responses usually that most of the time did not help at all.
