Sergeant Anthony Mannino received the Naperville Police Department's life saving award Thursday because of a heroic act that was caught on video.

When Mannino first saw the figure on the busy highway, he says he thought it was some kind of animal, according to WGN. Then as he drew closer, Mannino realized it was actually a toddler wandering dangerously close to traffic. The 1-year-old was running alongside traffic, including large trucks whizzing by at risky speeds.

Naperville Police said the little boy "escaped his mother's watchful eye" and got out of his house. She told the officer he had made it about two blocks from their home. No charges were filed against the mother, and police ruled the incident was an accident.
