Brian Windhorst Addresses Likelihood Of LeBron James Joining Celtics

After the series shifted to Cleveland for Game 3, the Cavs blew a 13-point first-half lead in a 110-102 loss.

But, the brunt of the heat James receives comes from New Englanders.

According to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports though, there is only a "slim chance" of James signing with either the Warriors or Celtics. He's just leveraging for contract negotiations when the time is right. Obviously, you go to Boston and you become the face of the franchise. The bad takeaway is he isn't talking about an extended future with the Celtics.

The Boston Celtics reportedly have concerns about Kyrie Irving's plans for his free agency, which suddenly looms large next season. Fans down in Philadelphia would give their first-born to see James complete "The Process". One, because he could very well be a one-year rental, and two, because the Nuggets don't have the assets that other teams do, but on the off-chance that the Celtics and Nuggets make a deal for Irving, here are three possibilities for what that trade could look like.

Warm and dry tonight, storm chances rumble in for Monday
Showers and storms will be a little more widespread Monday and into Tuesday as a cold front approaches. It will also be breezy so at least that will help in mixing around the hot air that we'll have.

A lot of the news coming out of Boston hasn't been the best. He's been a vital key for the Celtics and he's going to warrant somewhere between $12-14 million, per season.

If Irving won't commit to the Celtics, then Boston won't commit to him. This is where general manager Danny Ainge would have to strip himself off all attachments to the marquee players on his roster as he did in sending Isaiah Thomas to the Cavaliers last offseason. This season he averaged 14.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals per game. It's best for him and the Cavaliers to move forward.

In the playoffs, Terry Rozier played well enough in Irving's absence. You're on a winning team. If Cleveland uses the eighth pick in this month's draft to add Michael Porter Jr., Wendell Carter or Collin Sexton, it could make for an attractive roster, especially considering that dishing James to the Celtics could also net them Morris or Rozier. No doubt. There is no other player in the National Basketball Association capable of playing at the level James does. It's felt like a number of seasons in one.

Burning question: How good is this Celtics team when healthy? If James were to sign on with the C's, it's tough to imagine any scenario in which the green doesn't reach the NBA Finals next season and the following campaigns to come.
