Woman drove 2 children in pet kennels in Tennessee


Authorities say a Memphis woman was arrested after video showed her transporting two children in pet kennels. According to Memphis police, Leimome Cheeks, 62, said there was no room inside her vehicle, so she told the seven and eight-year-olds to get inside the kennels.

Cheeks told police that she traveled with the children in the kennel from Collierville to Whitehaven because there was no room for them in the vehicle.

"Leimome Cheeks was interviewed and admitted to riding from Whitehaven to Collierville with the children in the kennel".

Neighbors of Cheeks expressed their shock after learning about the incident.

Neighbour Skylark Blake told local news source WREG that Cheeks is a "nice lady" adding that he "can't see her doing that".

Other residents called the grandmother, who cares for two puppies, a woman of strong faith.

Cheeks was charged with child endangerment.

A Memphis woman allegedly placed her two grandchildren kennels and drove them around for at least 40 minutes.

"I think she needs some help".

The video was filmed by a concerned citizen who said he to happened be in the right place at the right when he witnessed the unusual sight. WATN said it attempted to contact Cheeks at her home over the weekend, but no one answered the door.

There were no air conditioning vents in the back of the vehicle and the children told police they became hot.

Police say the children are okay. She is set to appear in court on Monday, the station reported.
