North Korea's Kim to tour Singapore sites on eve of summit

Trump thanked the prime minister for Singapore's efforts to host the summit, the first-ever between a sitting United States president and a North Korean leader, at a hotel on the city-state's resort island of Sentosa on Tuesday.

But after a flurry of diplomatic overtures eased tension in recent months, the two leaders are now headed for a history-making handshake that U.S. officials hope could eventually lead to the dismantling of a North Korean nuclear programme that threatens the United States. Create peace and great prosperity for his land.

On the eve of Mr. Trump's meeting with Mr. Kim, one of the president's top trade advisers, Peter Navarro, said there was "a special place in hell" for leaders like Mr. Trudeau, accusing him of engaging in "bad-faith diplomacy" with Mr. Trump. Trump had earlier tweeted about "excitement in the air!" Kim finished off the night with a walk along a pedestrian bridge near the city's Merlion Park.

Beyond the impact on both leaders' political fortunes, the summit could shape the fate of countless people - the citizens of impoverished North Korea, the tens of millions living in the shadow of the North's nuclear threat, and millions more worldwide.

Even if Kim offers only "a fine-sounding rhetorical commitment, and maybe a few missile surrendered or some site closures", he said, Trump will "market this thing as something extraordinary for his voters back home".

Trump in May briefly scrapped the summit with Kim, only to later reinstate the meeting after meeting withNorth Korea official Kim Yong Chol.

Trump himself seemed optimistic as well.

The relative speed with which state media reported on Kim's arrival suggests a some confidence that the meeting will go well - or at least well enough. He said the summit will lay the ground work for the "hard work" ahead.

Preliminary meetings have already begun.

Trump is set to meet with Kim in Singapore on Tuesday morning.

Maybe that is why they are living it up.without paying the bill.

Singapore is one of the few countries that have diplomatic relations with both the U.S. and North Korea.

Sentosa, where the meeting between Trump and Kim will be held, is a former British military fort and now, a tourist attraction with a Universal Studio theme park. Trump and Navarro in ratcheting up tensions with Canada since the tariffs were announced at the end of May. The president also refused to sign a G-7 joint statement pledging cooperation.

Iran said North Korea should be wary of negotiating with Mr Trump following his withdrawal from the landmark 2015 nuclear agreement.

It is no easy task.

On the summit's eve, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo drew a firm line, saying the U.S. plans to keep sanctions in place until North Korea eliminates its nuclear weapons capability. "The 'plus" refers to discussions on ending the Korean War".

Nobody is pretending North Korea can ape Singapore but the message to Kim of the hermit kingdom is clear - come in from the cold on the steaming hot humid south Asian island of Singapore.

"I can only say this", Pompeo said.

The guards must be about the same height as Kim, BBC said.

The MFA also said Lee will meet President Trump separately on Monday.

"Just my touch, my feel", Trump replied.

The Swiss-educated leader, who is believed to be 34, has not left his isolated country since taking office in 2011 other than to visit China and the South Korean side of the border Demilitarised Zone, which separates the two Koreas. And he won't have that opportunity again. "It's never going to be there again".
