Irish bench Sexton for Wallabies 1st Test

Johnny Sexton has been named on the bench for Ireland's first Test against Australia as Joey Carbery gets the nod at fly-half.

Ireland are chasing their first series win over the Wallabies in Australia since 1979.

Several injury concerns have forced coach Joe Schmidt to revamp his starting lineup from the one that last played against England in the Six Nations on 17 March.

On the bench, Quinn Roux is preferred over Tadhg Beirne while there's Cian Healy and Tadhg Furlong covering the front-row and young starlet Jordan Larmour covering the back field. However, he will now link up with future Munster clubmate Conor Murray in the 9-10 axis.

In the back-row, the Ulster bound Jordi Murphy comes in at openside flanker following some impressive end-of-season displays with Leinster, while Peter O'Mahony captains the side from number six.

The only other change to the backline for the Suncorp Stadium clash sees Robbie Henshaw replace Garry Ringrose at outside centre, where he resumes his partnership with former Connacht team-mate Bundee Aki.

Schmidt has named Cronin, Healy, Furlong, Quinn Roux, Jack Conan, Kieran Marmion, Sexton and Jordan Larmour among his reserves.

Rob Kearney, Keith Earls, Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Jacob Stockdale, Joey Carbery, Conor Murray; CJ Stander, Jordi Murphy, Peter O'Mahony (capt), James Ryan, Iain Henderson, John Ryan, Rob Herring, Jack McGrath.
