Injured Ozil to miss Germany's final World Cup warm-up

Mesut Ozil is in serious danger of missing Germany's first game in the World Cup thanks to a knee injury which he picked up while playing in a friendly, according to reports.

Ozil scored Germany's opener after 11 minutes, but the knock forced him off the pitch 14 minutes from the end of the 2-1 loss in Klagenfurt.

The 29-year-old's participation in Russian Federation 2018, however, is not under any threat as he simply has bruising on his knee, which restricted him to running during Thursday's training session.

"I didn't take part in final team training today, but some running exercises were possible again", he wrote on his official Twitter account.

The key to getting the deal over the line was Florentino Perez's willingness to accept the demands laid out by Santos . Although it's worth pointing out that Barcelona were never willing to match the sums demanded by Santos and the player.

The 29-year-old missed the final seven Premier League games of the season due to various injuries, and is now not expected to feature in Germany's final warm-up game against Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Germany are one of the favourites heading into the tournament in Russian Federation and Low's men are in a group of Mexico, Sweden and South Korea.

Germany are winless in their last five games and are set to name a full-strength side against Saudi Arabia, who face hosts Russian Federation in the World Cup opener next Thursday.

"We've worked through the defeat, taken our mistakes to heart - tomorrow we want to do a much better job", said left-back Jonas Hector.

With Ozil out, Paris St-Germain's Julian Draxler is likely to fill the attacking midfield role with Chelsea's Antonio Ruediger stepping in for Boateng if needed.
