Vincent Kompany injury concern after goalless draw between Belgium and Portugal

Belgium defender Vincent Kompany left the field hurt as his side and Portugal drew 0-0 in an evenly balanced friendly on Saturday as each side showed attacking intent ahead of this month's World Cup.

It is a further injury headache for Belgium manager Martinez.

Portugal's hopes, however, seem to rely upon the majestic talent of Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Belgium had their fair share of chances too, and used the friendly as an opportunity to give fringe players game time, making a total of six changes.

Goncalo Guedes and De Bruyne sent early efforts off target as both sides took time to settle into any rhythm in Brussels.

Yannick Carrasco rippled the side-netting with a drive after beating a series of defenders with a risky dribble, before Courtois was called into more routine action at the other end, saving comfortably from Raphael Guerreiro.

In outlet Eden Hazard, who conjured up a few free-kicks in threatening areas, it nearly paid off on 53 minutes when Jan Vertonghen took initiative with a curling shot that Beto tipped over the top.

And there was an injury scare for Courtois mid-way through the second half, substitute Quaresma accidentally treading on the goalkeeper's wrist as he raced through on goal.

Creating chances proved hard against a notoriously resolute Portuguese defence, although Beto was forced into action by Thomas Meunier in the 63rd minute. It's not yet known how serious that injury could be, but this was a hard night for Belgium as the pressure already starts to mount on Martinez and his players before heading to Russian Federation.
