Meghan's tribute to California in coat of arms design

Meghan's tribute to California in coat of arms design

Although it is no longer unusual to see Meghan Markle break royal traditions, the different approach regarding the coat of arms did raise some eyebrows since it is considered one of the biggest breaks of the tradition.

Do you think the decision not to grant the Markle family a coat of arms was an intentional snub? The shield includes three quills representing the power of words - a nod to her former website, which was used as a forum to discuss social issues. According to the palace, the shield's blue background is representative of the Pacific Ocean, which lines Markle's home state of California. Golden poppies, California's state flower, are also dotted across the grass at the shield's base.

The collection of flowers was similar to the flowers embroidered into Meghan's 16-foot long veil at her wedding.

Royal couples are often given a conjugal coat of arms as well as individual ones. Recall that in 2011 the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton received its coat of arms a few days before the wedding with Prince William.

Meghan has also been assigned a coronet.

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex leave Windsor Castle in the Ascot Landau carriage during a procession after getting married at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, Berkshire.

It's traditional that when a new member enters the Royal Family, a unique coat of arms is created to identify them.

"It is customary for Supporters of the shield to be assigned to Members of the Royal Family, and for wives of Members of the Royal Family to have one of their husband's Supporters and one relating to themselves".

At the time, Mr Woodcock, said: "Mr and Mrs Middleton and their children took enormous interest in this design and, while its objective is to provide a traditional heraldic identity for Catherine, as she marries into the Royal Family, the intent was to represent the whole Middleton family together, their home and aspects of what they enjoy". While Meghan has the songbird as her supporter, Prince Harry is symbolized with a lion and a crown.

Coats of arms date back to the 12th Century, when they were worn over armour in battle and in tournaments so that opponents could identify each other.

The special honour was revealed on Friday (25May18), nearly a week after the former Suits actress, formerly known as Meghan Markle, Wednesday Prince Harry at Windsor Castle.

Meghan definitely doesn't seem like she would take any sass in regards to her new coat of arms.
