Frank Lampard announced as new Derby County boss

The Chelsea legend's appointment comes in the wake of Gary Rowett's departure earlier this month as he became the new Stoke boss following their relegation from the Premier League. The former England midfielder was also interviewed for the vacant managerial position at Ipswich, however the club elected to appoint Paul Hurst.

He won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, a League Cup, one Champions League and one Europa League while at Chelsea - as well as netting 29 goals in 106 games for England.

Rowett led Derby into the play-offs at the end of last season only for Fulham to overturn a first leg deficit in their semi-final clash before going on to beat Aston Villa at Wembley.

Lampard has no doubt built up these contacts and relationships whilst at Chelsea. Mourinho is considered a master of mind games and has had a plethora of success around Europe, but in recent times questions have been asked about his tough-love methods. He said, "I have played under some great ones (managers), some not so great, too, and I would like to take bits from all of them,".

"This is my first job as a manager but I've been working towards this for a long time. The ones that speak to you on the pitch and off the pitch, the ones you feel comfortable with and being around, the ones that had that attention to detail on the training ground.". Few players have achieved what Frank has in his career to date.

Time, teams, venue and where to watch

Furthermore, Redknapp suggested Derby will be able to sign Chelsea's best youth players on loan, due to Lampard's status at Stamford Bridge. Even so, there are doubts.

While the reputation of Lampard will most likely excite Derby supporters, the decision represents something of a gamble given his lack of experience as a coach.

On the worldwide stage Lampard was a consistent performer for England, netting 29 times in 106 appearances.

As is usually customary, managers appointed to clubs often look back at former sides, using their contacts and relationships there, when it comes to bringing in players on loan deals.
