Subtropical Storm Alberto forms; expected to soak Florida

Subtropical Storm Alberto forms; expected to soak Florida

The Memorial Day weekend in Texas, however, should be mostly hot and dry.

The NHC predicts that Alberto could reach tropical storm status overnight, although it's too early to predict where that could occur and what magnitude the storm system might achieve.

Forecasters fear the front has an 80 percent chance of deteriorating into a subtropical or tropical depression this weekend.

Sunday will be wet.

About four to six inches are expected for the greater Fort Lauderdale and Miami areas, with three to four inches expected for Palm Beach County.

"On Monday, there is more of chance of thunderstorms", said Kennedy, stating those storms will be more from the traditional summertime clashing of sea breezes along the Interstate 75 corridor.

Alberto has formed from tropical disturbance Invest 90-L on Friday morning.

Alberto, appearing a week before the official start of hurricane season, maintained sustained winds of 40 miles per hour and halted its forward movement Friday afternoon, although it is expected to resume a course toward the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. "It is forecast to get stronger, as it works its way to the north". Heavy rainfall is expected from western Cuba to Florida an through the northeast Gulf Coast through the weekend.

"Locally heavy rainfall is forecast across western Cuba and over much of Florida and the northern Gulf Coast into early next week", the National Hurricane Center (NHC) warns.

That includes Tampa Bay as well, where several events could be rained out. Organizers of that festival, along with the 97X Barbecue Music and Arts Festival and Tampa Bay Margarita Festival, have urged attendees to follow forecasts and their social media accounts to keep track of updates.

More than 2 million Floridians were expected to travel this weekend, according to AAA, despite rising gas prices.

The overall track of Alberto will be important to the amount of rain that can be expected across the Carolinas.

Flooding will be the main threat with the storm, regardless of strength and exact landfall. "We will have a few spots where heavier bands of rain will push through and potentially push their rainfall totals into the 5-6" range. Small crafts are advised to exercise caution over open waters.

The official start of hurricane season isn't until June 1.

Last hurricane season - which produced the immensely destructive hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria - was exceptionally active, said Bell, who doesn't now expect this season to produce such intense activity. Winds will calm down on Memorial Day as Alberto moves onshore far to our north. The tropical storm watch lies from Indian Pass, Florida to Grand Isle, Louisiana. The storm surge watch extends from Horseshoe Beach, Florida westward to the mouth of the Mississippi River.

Fred was one of Shakhtar's best players in the 2017-18 season as they picked up another Ukrainian league title. When it comes to Manchester United , though, it's hard to see how Jose Mourinho will fit him into the side.
