Shooting at middle school in IN, 2 victims in critical condition

The male teen allegedly opened fire in an in middle school classroom on Friday morning, leaving one student and one teacher injured.

"[The gunman] took about four to five maybe six shots, one of them hitting a girl that was about 10 feet from me", a student who asked not to be identified told CBS4 in Indianapolis.

Seventh-grader Ethan Stonebraker said the student was acting suspiciously when he walked into the room while the class was taking a test.

Police said the suspected shooter was brought into custody shortly after the shooting took place around 9 a.m.

"PLEASE pray for the student that was also shot", she said. The suspect was not injured.

Seaman is being treated at IU Health Methodist. Authorities declined to provide their conditions.

Fox59's Dan Spehler shared another firsthand account from a seventh grade student who was in the Noblesville West Middle School classroom at the time of the shooting.

The school's academic year was scheduled to end next Friday.

"Here we go again". As CNN reports, there are conflicting reports about how many people were injured in the shooting. "Another cotton pickin sad day and it just now happens to be in IN".

Eighth-grader Chris Navarro said he was inside an auditorium when he heard several gunshots about a minute before the bell rang for the change in classes. However, he did say that a local high school was being monitored by police because of a recent "threat" made against staff and pupils.

UPDATE (2:11 p.m. ET): A student witness says a science teacher tackled the shooter to the ground.

"They are so appreciative of this community, and the outpouring of love that they've felt from everyone", she said. A female student is in critical condition.

Police said the crime scene was limited to the classroom. Police provided few other details, citing the ongoing investigation.

Parents had been instructed to pick up the middle school students at the high school.

Barnes also confirmed the school does not have metal detectors "as a regular basis of walking into the school". Parents reportedly searched for their children as the middle-school students were loaded onto buses and taken to a nearby high school.

Helicopter footage showed dozens of police officers milling around the school. "We believe he is the involved suspect", Jowitt said.

A student at the middle school said he saw his science teacher tackle a fellow student who fired shots inside the classroom.
