Netflix's Market Value Is Now Higher Than Disney's

Meanwhile, despite owning the massively popular Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, Disney's stock dropped to $101.74 per share by midday, yielding a market cap of nearly $152 billion. It's total market cap hit $152.8 billion, surpassing Comcast's cap of $147.15 billion. Disney retreated 0.8 percent, closing with a market value of $152.2 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Streaming giant Netflix is now worth more than Disney, making it not only the best way to waste an evening, but also the most valuable "pure media" company in the world. Despite the fact that Netflix continues to burn through cash, the company has become a stock market darling as it adds more subscribers around the world.

Netflix's sales are forecast to grow 38 percent to $16.1 billion this year, based on analysts' estimates, as the company signs up more customers for its global on-demand video service.

Hemsworth captioned the hilarious post: "What started as a ground breaking music video ended in a savage attack by a cowardly K9". Hemsworth shares 6-year-old daughter India and 4-year-old twin sons Tristan and Sasha with his wife, actress Elsa Pataky .

Netflix remains much smaller than Disney in terms of its financials, and operates at a lower net margin. Disney, with 2017 revenue of $55.1 billion, owns ABC and ESPN, two of the most valuable TV networks in the US, along with its namesake parks and resorts and prosperous movie studio. Earlier this year, Disney had an all-stock offer of $52.4 billion accepted for Fox's assets, including its film and TV properties. Whilst Disney has accepted the Fox deal in principle, this may yet put a spanner in the proverbial works.

Meanwhile, there was speculation before Disney's direct-to-consumer move (which included acquiring majority control of streaming-infrastructure company BAMTech) that the conglomerate might make an M&A play for Netflix.

Tech giants who also have large media units - among them Alphabet, Amazon and Apple - have market caps several times that of Netflix. Last year, Netflix surpassed the market capitalization of Time Warner - target of AT&T's still-pending takeover.
