Swarmed by reporters, Najib looked calm and smiled as he was escorted into the agency's building.

According to the statement, the task force would be jointly led by former Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail, former chief commissioner of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, former deputy director of Bukit Aman Special Branch Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador and the new MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull.

The police have been photographed transporting luggage and boxes containing the designer handbags seized from the raid, but they have not released any verified images of the seized items. The previous evening, Mahathir met Xavier Justo, a Swiss national who was the first whistleblower in the 1MDB affair.

"Charge, investigate, prudently", Nurul said on Twitter. He was freed in an amnesty in 2016.

SRC came into focus after the Wall Street Journal reported that funds from the company were transferred using multiple companies as fronts, before eventually reaching Najib's account.

MACC has been able to track the money trail from SRC more easily because transactions were made through Malaysian entities, whereas most other transfers of 1MDB funds went through foreign banks and companies.
