YouTube launches new music streaming service May 22

The video-streaming company plans to charge $2 more for the other parts of YouTube Red, including original shows like "Cobra Kai", but will require individuals to also pay for YouTube Music, the report said.

YouTube confirmed in its blog post that: "More than 1 billion music fans come to YouTube each month to be part of music culture and discover new music". YouTube Music will be able to leverage your YouTube viewing history and listening habits to offer different types of music based on where you are, what you're doing, and what your preferences are. In theory, that gives YouTube a unique position to recruit people to level-up to paying music subscribers. With the video network taking the lead on the new joint offering, a revamped YouTube Music is launching today. If you like an artist or genre, YouTube Music will put their new singles and albums right on your homepage, so you don't find out about Daughtry's new single months after it came out like me. Just last week, YouTube Music redesigned its now playing interface and added a queue feature to control what plays next.

Google's YouTube said on Wednesday it will launch a new music streaming service, YouTube Music, next week and unveil soon a premium service that will charge more for its original shows.

The big question now is who will be paying for this new subscriptions?

"YouTube in general is where most music is consumed". On the app's homescreen, you scroll past shelves and shelves of recommending music and playlists - individualized selections of new releases, a My Mixtape personalized playlist, collections similar to an artist you've been listening to a lot lately, a selection called Throwback Jams - before you get to recommended music vidoes and professional clips of live performances.

The New YouTube Music will replace the original service that launched in 2015. YouTube Premium will continue to provide an ad-free experience, background play, and downloads across the millions of videos on YouTube.

YouTube is remixing its subscription services, relaunching its Spotify-like rival YouTube Music as a $10-a-month membership mostly devoid of video, and recasting the YouTube Red ad-free, paywalled video tier as YouTube Premium. If you are a YouTube Red member, your service will automatically receive access at your current price. YouTube Premium expects to expand in new markets over the next few years, including Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

YouTube Music begins rolling out next Tuesday in the United States, Mexico, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
