Tiger commits to Nicklaus' Memorial tourney

The tournament, which runs from May 31 to June 3, features another strong field.

Peyton Manning is pairing up with Tiger Woods in the pro-am at the Memorial Tournament on May 30, according to Sports Illustrated.

A tweet from the Memorial's official account on Wednesday read, in part: "HE'S BACK!"

Woods has not played in the tournament since 2015 when he finished last after shooting an 85 in the third round.

A statement said Woods, a five-time victor at Memorial, had added the May 31-June 3 tournament to his schedule along with newly-minted world No. 1 Justin Thomas.

Teams would duke it out in DOGs (Destructive Ordinance on the Ground) over 5v5v5v5v5 multiplayer matches. Bleszinski suggested that publishers did not see enough novelty-or too much-for them to want to sign on.

Memorial takes place a fortnight before this year's US Open at Shinnecock Hills, in Southampton, New York, where Woods will be chasing a 15th Major.

Woods has secured four top-12 finishes, including a share of 11th at last week's Players Championship, in the eight events he has played since returning to the PGA Tour following spinal fusion surgery in April 2017. Woods and Thomas join a stacked gathering that includes Masters champion Patrick Reed, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Bubba Watson and defending champion Jason Dufner.

"I have been so impressed with Tiger during his comeback, and as I said after last weekend, I think he is on the verge of winning for the first time in several years", Nicklaus said.

The former world number one won this tournament three years running from 1999 and then again in 2009 and 2012.

"This weekend was extremely positive", Woods said after the Players.
