Nigeria unmoved in FIFA World Rankings, Ghana climb

Nigeria and South Africa have remained unmoved in the May edition of the FIFA World Rankings, although Ghana are one of several nations to have climbed after a relatively quiet month of worldwide football.

According to the rankings on the website, seven worldwide "A" matches, all friendlies, took place in the month and as a result there are few movers in the latest ranking.

Nigeria's next friendly opponent DR Congo, also retained their number 3 position in Africa and 38th in the world with Nigeria also remaining 6th on the continent while Russia-bound Tunisia leads the way as the only African country in the top 20.

World Cup holders Germany remain in top spot, followed by Brazil, Belgium, Portugal and Argentina.

The driver, Dorothy Bruns, was arrested at her Staten Island home on Thursday, May 3, and has been charged with manslaughter. She was due to deliver a baby girl later this month with her husband, Jonathan Blumenstein, according to media reports.

The first 47 positions remain totally unchanged from April's ranking, but outside the top 50, a couple of nations have made notable advances. "Kuwait (160th, up 16) have leapt up the table thanks in part to their 2-0 friendly victory over Palestine", FIFA's statement added.

NAIJ.com previously reported that in the April edition of the Federation Internationale de Football Association ranking, Nigeria Super Eagles have been named the 47th best team in the world by the governing body.

The Eagles' 2018 World Cup Group D opponents all maintain their previous spots.
